The Delhi Fire Service director has been directed to “take strict action as per fire safety standards and guidelines to prevent recurrence of such accidents (Surat fire),” an official order issued by Home Minister Satyendar Jain said.

The department has identified five coaching centres so far where entry/exit points and staircases are blocked, electrical wires are loosely hanging in the open, and there is a lack of firefighting equipment.

A senior DDA official said, “The DDA gives the land for such events. The person or organisation that books the site has to obtain a clearance from the fire department. The DDA doesn’t check for fire clearance, as it can be given only after the temporary structure is erected.”
