Five-term MP and four-term member of legislative assembly (MLA) Bagun Sumbrui had won Singhbhum seat in 2004. He was the last Congress MP and MLA from the Singhbhum parliamentary segment including six assembly seats.

Out of 8 legislators in LS polls fray, two make it to parliament

Of the six, only Congress candidate Geeta Koda could win the Singhbhum seat. The Jagganathpur legislator, Koda, defeated BJP state president Laxman Gilua by a comfortable margin of 72,155 votes in the elections.

Lok Sabha Elections 2019 : Congress candidate Geeta Koda files nomination from Singhbhum

Speaking to media after filing nominations, Geeta Koda alleged that the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) MP from Singhbhum, Laxman Gilua, did nothing for the constituency. He did not fulfill promises made in the last election and people have decided to vote him out, she added.
