Augmenting oxygen supply from all sources: Centre tells Gujarat high court

In a report on the supply of medical oxygen submitted before the high court on Monday, the Centre said a total allocation of 8,410 metric tonnes of medical oxygen has been made for 22 high burden states and union territories based on their demand, the Centre told the high court on Tuesday.

  • At least 27 patients were undergoing treatment in the ICU of Patel Welfare Hospital and nearly 60 other patients were admitted in other wards when the fire erupted at midnight, police said.

A fire broke out in Ayush Hospital located on the fifth floor of a multi-storey building on Station Road in Surat at around 11.40 pm Sunday, after which sixteen patients admitted in the ICU were rescued and shifted to safer places.

On Tuesday, Gujarat chief minister Vijay Rupani said that no prior permission but just an intimation to the municipal commissioner or district collector is sufficient for all private hospitals, clinics, and nursing homes in the state to treat Covid-19 patients.

Colleges in Gujarat on Sunday were directed to remain shut till April 30 amid a sharp rise in COVID-19 cases in the state, officials said.

Covid-19 in Gujarat: The daily count surpassed the previous highest one-day rise of 3,575 Covid-19 cases recorded on Wednesday. As many as 35 persons succumbed to the infection in Gujarat in the last 24 hours, taking the death toll to 4,655, said a release by the department.
