US House passes Dreamers bill, H-1B approvals drop by 10%

For the first six months of this fiscal year, the overall H-1B approval rate for new and continuing visas continued to plummet to 79% by the end of March, down from 85 per cent last year, the daily reported.

Denial rates for H-1B petitions climbing; up to 32% for 2019 first quarter

The denial rate was 24 per cent in fiscal year 2018, quadrupling from 6 per cent in 2015. It never exceeded 8 per cent from 2010 to 2015, the Obama years. The first-quarter denial rate for FY 2018, to match the first quarter rate for 2019, was not available.

Donald Trump administration shifting H-1B selection to favour merit

The proposed change in the selection process would result in an estimated increase of up to 16% (or 5,340 workers) in the number of selected those with a master’s degree or higher from a US institution of higher education, according to the US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), which runs the H-1B programme

US can now reject visa, green card applications over errors in documents

US authorities can now reject a visa application, petition or request — including possibly for H-1B visas — over mistakes and missing documents without offering the applicant a chance to correct the error.

H-1B rejections spike in fourth quarter of 2017

There was a sharp rise in rejection of H-1B petitions in the fiscal quarter immediately following President Donald Trump’s announcement of restrictive policies in 2017, said a study based on US data, that also showed more Indians were turned down than others.

US awards far more H-1B visas outside cap, finds study

A total of 345,262 H-1B petitions were approved in fiscal 2016, including 230,759 in uncapped categories, the highest level yet, the Immigration Policy Institute said in a detailed report on H-1B visas.
