Rajaji Tiger Reserve flags Railways’ decision to increase train speed inside range

Govt to explore railways’ infra for Covid19 vaccine transportation

Special refrigerated vans may be set aside for transporting the vaccine or luggage compartments may be modified into temperature-controlled units. Refrigerated vans have the capacity to carry 17 tonnes of cargo, with a deep freezer capable of handling temperatures as low as minus 20 degrees Celsius.
The ministry said that addressing the availability constraints, efforts are being made to increase the capacity to make trains available on demand that would “reduce the possibility of passengers getting waitlisted” but this does not mean that there will be no waiting lists.(PTI)

Railways also aims to increase its share in freight transportation from the present 27% to 45% by 2030 through better infrastructure and business development plans, according to the draft National Rail Plan unveiled on Friday.

Addressing a press conference, Railway Board Chairman VK Yadav said so far in the current fiscal, the railways’ earnings from passenger revenue have been Rs 4,600 crore and estimates show that by March 2021, the figure is expected to rise to Rs 15,000 crore.

As per a statement, power cuts will be imposed on all residential, commercial and agricultural consumers from Tuesday evening by the Power Department. The day-time power shortage rose to 1000 to 1500 megawatts and the state’s last power plant, GVK Thermal, has also run out.

Mumbai Central- Ahmedabad special Shatabdi Express will run from Wednesday till further notice. Two pairs of festival special trains between Bhuj and Bareilly, with 74 trips, will also be run to clear the festival rush.

A double-decker fully reserved special train will resume services between Dr MGR Chennai Central station and KSR Bengaluru station. It will be a daily train.

Owing to a technical snag, the Kalka-Shimla train service could not begin on Tuesday. Now it is scheduled to begin from Wednesday.

The 392 special trains will operate from Kolkata, Varanasi, Lucknow, Patna among other locations to deliver on the rising demand as festivals such as Durga Puja, Dussehra, Diwali and Chhatt Puja are around the corner.

In the order issued by the ministry, the Railway Board said these festival special trains will be operated at a speed of 55 kmph. The schedule and booking of the trains will be finalised by the railway zones.
