Hizbul Mujahideen chief Syed Salaudin had welcomed the soldier, Zahoor Ahmad Thokar, joining the militant ranks. Hizbul Mujahideen had even shared a video of the soldier along with top commanders of the militant group.

The three militants were killed in a house after the gunfight broke out early on Sunday. Police said once the firing stopped, local residents went too close to the encounter site before security forces could sanitise the area.
