Haryana has done well in all three editions of KIYG. While they came second in both 2019 and 2020 editions (200 medals in 2020 and 159 medals in 2019), Haryana won it in 2018 with 102 podium finishes (38 gold, 26 silver, 38 bronze).

Maharashtra finished as the top team with 228 medals (85 gold, 62 silver, 81 bronze). Haryana with 178 medals (62 gold, 56 silver, 60 bronze) came second, followed by Delhi.

Haryana won gold medals in 56kg, 64kg, 69kg, 81kg and 91kg in men’s category while the women won yellow metal in 48kg, 51kg, 60kg, 64kg and 75kg categories.

The Maharashtra girl had to tackle both to win the U-17 girls’ tennis final against Gujarat’s Priyanshi Bhandari 6-2, 5-7, 7-5 at the Khelo India Games. She had also won the U-17 girls’ doubles gold with Gargi Pawar.

While Jeremy Lalrinnunga was a standout winner in the under-17 67kg category with a total lift of 278kg, he came off the second best in the under-21 67kg section where his mark of 278kg was 1kg less than what Gulam Navi of Uttarakhand managed to achieve on his way to a gold medal.

Uttar Pradesh were dominant in the men’s category with gymnasts Rafey and Raj Yadav grabbing gold and silver with scores of 68.25 and 67.50 respectively. Delhi’s Tushar Kalyan clinched the bronze medal with an all-round score of 66.90. Tushar had won the bronze medal at the Khelo India School Games last year.
