Housing societies and schools join fight against plastic waste

Students at Navy Public School in Colaba have taken an oath to segregate and recycle their plastic waste, with the support of the surrounding Navy Nagar buildings. The initiative is part of the monthly Plastic Recyclothon organized by NGO Project Mumbai, which aims to change people's attitudes towards single-use plastic. Other building collectives, corporates, and schools across the city are also participating in the initiative. The Rotary Club of Mumbai Lakers in Powai has been collecting low-grade and multi-layer plastic for recycling since 2020, collecting 25 tons so far. Project Mumbai funds the plastic collection and recycling through CSR initiatives.

MCD to upgrade surveillance at Ghazipur landfill site in bid to curb blazes

The civic body has invited bids from private vendors to install and operate the camera surveillance system. The live feed from the system will be made available to sanitation department officials, a corporation official said.

Bhalswa fire: Gopal Rai asks Delhi pollution panel to submit report in 24 hours

As many as 10 fire tenders of the Delhi Fire Services (DFS) have been on the spot, trying to douse the flames since 5.45pm. A senior north MCD official said the corporation has deployed excavators to dump sand on the source of the fire.

Ghazipur landfill burns for 3rd time in a month

Several residents of the nearby Mulla colony, located about 500 metres away from the landfill, and those residing in several housing societies around the massive mountain of garbage, complained of difficulty in breathing and itching in the eyes.

Delhi govt appointed 3-member panel to look into Bhalswa landfill fire

The committee has been asked to file its report within two days, based on which the environment dept will take required action. 

The Bhalswa landfill comes under the jurisdiction of the BJP-ruled North MCD. Elections to the three municipal corporations are scheduled for early next year.(HT File)
