  • Security experts said the latest attack by Maoist rebels has forced the government to re-evaluate counter-insurgency operations against the ultra left-wing fighters, who have been able to increase new followers during the pandemic.

The two injured cops - Upendra Singh, 52, of district police and Anjani Kumar Pandey, 45, of special auxiliary police (SAP) - were airlifted and shifted to Ranchi’s Medica hospital for treatment.

The attack by suspected Maoists took place soon after a police patrolling team reached the weekly market under Tiruldih police station limits in the district.
The slain jawan, Niraj Chetri was from Assam. Two constables, Rajesh Kumar Rai and Karan Kumar, received serious injuries. They were airlifted to Ranchi, and admitted to the Medica hospital.(HT Photo)

A team of the 231st battalion of the CRPF, along with a state police unit, was out on road security duty in the district’s Aranpur area when an IED exploded and they were fired upon by Maoists, they said.
