Union petroleum and natural gas minister Hardeep Singh Puri said on Wednesday said that the government is "sensitive" towards the prices of the petroleum products.

Domestic petrol and diesel rates had been moving up since May 4, a day after the results of five assembly polls were declared. The price rally saw petrol becoming costlier by 11.44 a litre and diesel by 9.14 since May 4.

As of July 20, 2021, petrol and diesel prices did not increase for four consecutive days. This was the longest period without a price increase since May 3.
