According to the police, the tragedy took place when the trio, part of a 10-member group of students, was taking a swim in the backwaters of the dam, a popular picnic spot on the city’s outskirts.

Police said the group of students, all from a private coaching institute in Surat’s Amroli, was on its way to Dang forest for the picnic, when the accident happened on Mahal-Bardipada road.
