Botswana probes deaths of two people who took AstraZeneca Covid-19 shot

India donated 30,000 doses of the vaccine that were manufactured by the Serum Institute of India, and Botswana bought 33,000 doses that were made in South Korea. The two people who died had taken the shots made in India.

Serum Institute of India refunds South Africa for undelivered Covid-19 vaccines

South Africa would continue to support AstraZeneca's efforts and would deal with them again when they could show that they had developed a vaccine with efficacy against the new variant in South Africa, health minister Zweli Mkhize said.

India could resume vaccine exports by June, says SII CEO Adar Poonawalla

Poonawalla said the company has “chosen to prioritize India temporarily for two months” and hopes to then restart exports.

Covishield shelf life extended from 6 to 9 months: Govt

Concerns regarding Covid-19 vaccine wastage were raised as SII began production of the Covid-19 vaccine before being granted emergency use authorisation for use in India on January 3.

SII begins phase 2/3 trials for Covovax, supply likely by Sept

In August 2020, US-based vaccine maker Novavax, Inc announced a licence agreement with SII for the development and commercialisation of NVX-CoV2373, its Covid-19 vaccine candidate, in low and middle-income countries and India.

SII to delay further vaccine shipments to Brazil, Morocco, Saudi Arabia: Report

Brazil has already received 4 million doses from SII, Saudi Arabia 3 million doses and Morocco 7 million, according to India's foreign ministry. The three countries had ordered 20 million each.

Govt places new purchase order for 10 crore doses of Covishield Covid-19 vaccine

The HLL Lifecare Limited, a public sector undertaking, has issued the supply order on behalf of the Union health ministry on March 12 in the name of Prakash Kumar Singh, Director, Government and Regulatory Affairs at the Pune-based SII.

The cost of the 10 crore doses would be borne by the health ministry under the budgetary allocation for the purpose.(Reuters)

SII seeks Amit Shah's help for smooth operations of non-scheduled planes in Pune

In a recent letter to Amit Shah, the Pune-based firm suggested amendments in the AOR policy stating, it is needed for foreigners to commute smoothly at the airport and encourage "ease of doing business in India".

SII writes to PMO proposing reforms in drug regulatory system

WHO chief scientist says India's first shipment under COVAX likely this week

"Not in the next couple of months. This week. (I think) today or tomorrow, the first shipment from India, from the Serum Institute, will be going out to at least 25 or 30 countries," Soumya Swaminathan said.

"Many countries around the world are waiting for the distribution to happen as they have been watching vaccination programmes beginning and scaling in high income countries," Dr Swaminathan said. (Reuters)

Short circuit caused fire at Serum Institute: Ajit Pawar

"The premises where the blaze erupted was empty and work was going on there. It is a private institute and they are carrying out their audit. The government is also investigating. There is no other cause behind the fire other than short circuit," said Ajit Pawar while addressing the media.

UK delegation visits Serum institute, talks held on enhancing relationship

Elizabeth Truss is on a four-day visit to India for talks with Piyush Goyal towards an “enhanced trade partnership”. After concluding her visit to the facility at Pune, Truss tweeted that SII will also be producing 1.3 billion doses for the COVAX alliance to which UK has committed £548 million.

Government places second PO with SII for 1 crore doses of Covishield vaccine

The HLL Lifecare Limited, a public sector undertaking, on behalf of the Union health ministry issued the supply order in the name of Prakash Kumar Singh, Director, Government and Regulatory Affairs at Serum Institute of India (SII).

Relief for SII as court rejects trademark-violation plea over `Covishield'

On January 4, Cutis-Biotech, a pharmacertical firm, filed a suit in the civil court claiming it was a prior user of the brandname Covishield, and sought to restrain SII from using the name.
