Agitators block rail tracks after train knocks down cyclist in Bengal

Protesters alleged that 38-year-old Alam Khan lay bleeding on the tracks for a while, and could have been saved if the authorities had bothered to take him to a hospital. A number of trains were delayed due to the agitation.

Railways to stop 73 night trains on metre gauge to avoid mishaps at unmanned crossings

Corridors where high speed and suburban trains run have been prioritised and the Railways have targeted to remove unmanned crossings on these routes by June this year.

With 73 accidents last year, data shows best railway safety record in 57 years

The main reason behind the improvement in safety record is track renewal. The Indian Railways carried out renewal of 4,405 km of old rails in 2017-2018, a railway ministry official said.
