Armed CISF commandos take over security of crucial Aadhaar database centre in Gurgaon

About 159 CISF personnel have been tasked to guard the UIDAI centre in Gurgaon. They will provide round-the-clock armed security cover to the facility and special vehicle-borne quick reaction teams of commandos will be stationed at vantage points.

Aadhaar will not turn the Indian State into Big Brother

One may argue that there are safeguards in the US and Britain that prevent such possibilities. India too has a strong legislature, independent judiciary and a free Press, which can prevent any overreach by the executive. We should have confidence in these pillars of democracy.

Supreme Court rebuts Centre’s arguments on privacy infringement in Aadhaar case

Arguing for Aadhaar, the government referred to verdicts in two earlier cases relating to privacy and said the Supreme Court had then held that privacy was not a fundamental right. The SC bench said the question of privacy was “irrelevant” in these cases.

Minors cannot opt out of Aadhaar after they turn 18, UIDAI tells SC

Responding to a query whether a child, after attaining the age of 18 years, can opt out, the top law officer told the Supreme Court bench that it is not permissible under the Aadhaar Act, 2016.

Centre defends Aadhaar law in Supreme Court, says it’s fair, just and reasonable

The Centre referred to the Supreme Court verdict and said the reasonable restrictions, which are applicable on right to life, would also govern the right to privacy.

UIDAI unveils Virtual ID in beta form; service providers to use new feature soon

New feature to allow Aadhaar holders to quote their Virtual ID (VID) number without actually disclosing the 12-digit Aadhaar number for authentication or verification purposes.
