Amit Shah is the youngest ever president of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party and a loyalist and close confidant of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Closely associated with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh from an early age, Shah gained a reputation as a troubleshooter during Modi’s stints as chief minister of Gujarat. Shah weathered controversies such as an allegation of involvement in the 2005 extra-judicial killing of Sohrabuddin Sheikh and went on play a key role in guiding the campaign that swept Modi and the BJP to power in the 2014 general election.
