Amitabh Bachchan shot to fame in the 1970s with a series of roles in dramatic and action films that earned him the “angry young man” tag. A near-fatal accident on the sets of the movie “Coolie” in 1982 saw millions of his fans across the country and abroad praying for his health. Bachchan recovered and made a brief foray into politics at the insistence of his friend, Congress leader Rajiv Gandhi. After a short-lived political career, Bachchan returned to films. Though he scored some more box office hits, he never again reached the peaks he had touched in past decades. Bachchan then crafted a return in character roles and as host of hit TV shows such as Kaun Banega Crorepati and Bigg Boss.
