Ghazipur waste pickers jobless and going hungry after landfill site shuts down
Waste pickers at the Ghazipur landfill in east Delhi suddenly found themselves out of work. The site was shut down after two people were killed when a portion of the 15-storey garbage pile collapsed. Ghazipur landfill was supposed to shut down 15 years ago. But it continued to receive 3000 metric tonnes of waste every day. Now, waste pickers are struggling to pay for their next meal.
