Expert Panel | Sri Sri’s Festival completely destroyed Yamuna floodplains
Sri Sri Ravi Shankar’s Art of Living had organised the ‘World Culture Festival’ in March 2016. The venue chosen for this 3-day festival was the floodplain of the Yamuna river in Delhi. However, this event damaged the floodplains and a compensation of Rs. 120 crores was slapped on the foundation for the damage caused. Though this was revised and reduced to just Rs. 4.75 crores. The experts now have submitted a report to the National Green Tribunal (NGT) which states that the riverbed is “completely destroyed” due to the event. It also says that the impact of the event has “completely eliminated the natural physical features and diversity of habitats.” The NGT has now asked the Ministry of Water Resources to form a separate committee to fix a final compensation amount.
