Watch | ‘Banking Correspondent’ comes as messiah in the Sunderbans
Remesh Mistry is a villager working with an NGO, but he doubles up as the operator of a customer service point (CSP) of the State Bank of India in Satjelia island of the Sunderbans in West Bengal. He is the only source of fresh currency notes for residents of this remote region. For past several weeks now, residents have been queuing up for Mistry since 3am. But he gets money only for 20 people at a time. Rest have to return the next day.
