Joe Biden nominates Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti as US ambassador to India

President Joe Biden nominated LA Mayor Eric Garcetti to become the new US Ambassador to India. The White House announced his nomination on Friday along with three other ambassadors. Garcetti's selection as the ambassador to India has long been anticipated. This would allow Garcetti to work on pandemic relief, climate change, trade & immigration. Eric M Garcetti has been the Mayor of the City of Los Angeles since 2013. Earlier, he was a member of City Council for 12 years including six as Council President. Garcetti led LA's bid to return the summer Olympic Games to the US for the first time in three decades. He currently chairs LA Metro, the country's second-busiest transit agency. Garcetti’s familiarity with the region owes to his 12 years as an officer in the US Navy. He is a Rhodes Scholar, studied at Queen’s College, Oxford & LSE. Garcetti's website as LA mayor says he is also a jazz pianist & photographer.
