U.S. President Joe Biden took a Tire-Screeching SUV Test Drive to promote electric vehicles. Biden climbed behind the wheel of an electric Hummer SUV & sped off with a screeching of tires. The test drive took place at a General Motors Co electric vehicle assembly plant in Detroit. It was part of a nationwide White House tour promoting the $1 trillion infrastructure bill. The infrastructure bill was signed into a law by Joe Biden on Monday, November 15. The law provides $7.5 billion in funding to build out the nation's electric vehicle charging network. Investments expected to inspire more Americans to buy EVs & manufacturers to produce them. Electric vehicle sales accounted for just 1.8% of the U.S. new vehicle market in 2020. In Detroit, Biden praised the Big Three automakers, especially GM, for embracing EVs. Notably, Michigan is a key political battleground state in the U.S. elections.
