Watch | Rare Philippine Mouse Deer born at UK zoo
A tiny endangered Philippine mouse deer made history at Chester Zoo on November 16th, by becoming the first of its kind to be born in the United Kingdom. The Philippine mouse deer is among the smallest hooved animals worldwide, according to Chester Zoo. “Our newborn deer is incredibly small - similar in size to a Christmas bauble on tiny little legs, weighing just 430 grams,” Chester Zoo curator of mammals, Tim Rowlands, said. Adult mouse deer are only 18 cm tall and rarely exceed the weight of one kilo, according to the zoo. The species is listed as endangered.
