In an interview with Healthshots, Dr. Jayashree Nagaraj Bhasgi, Senior Gynaecologist and Obstetrician, Fortis Hospital, Bengaluru, shared some tips for first-time pregnancy
Here are some do’s and don’ts to follow during a first pregnancy suggested by the health expert
Nausea during pregnancy
In the first trimester of pregnancy, a woman experiences nausea, vomiting and loss of appetite. As the pregnancy advances, a woman starts feeling better and her appetite will improve
According to Bhasgi, if the vomiting is severe despite taking your medications, it’s mandatory to reach out to your doctor
Avoid travelling in the first trimester
Avoid travelling out of station and two-wheeler rides in the first trimester as it is not recommended during the early days of pregnancy
Constipation
Adding plenty of fluids to your diet can help prevent urinary infections and constipation in pregnancy. One can also have a diet rich in fibre
Adequate sleep
Ensure adequate sleep during pregnancy. Bhasgi said that one should sleep in the left lateral position as it improves the blood circulation towards the baby from the mother
Supplements and vaccinations
According to Bhasgi, iron, multivitamin and calcium supplements are recommended during pregnancy. Vaccinations against tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis and flu are advised
