UNICEF unveils 5 ways to help set your child up for future success

Parenting is one of the toughest jobs in the world. As no formal education is available for it, parents struggle to find ways to navigate it. UNICEF has five ways to help parents set their children up for future success.

Stimulate baby talk and treat it as real conversation: Parents should always respond to babies' sounds, cues, and actions and engage with them throughout the day. The number of words a baby is exposed to will determine the number of words in a child's vocabulary at age 2.

Read to your baby to exercise language: Make it a point to reach out loud to them to build their language skills. Make sure to point to the pictures in the book and ask questions about the story and the characters.

Use everyday experiences as learning opportunities: Each life experience is a learning experience for a baby. As a parent, use these experiences to teach your baby something new. Making faces that show different emotions is a great way to teach emotional intelligence.

Take play seriously: Young children also build important life skills while playing. Parents should always give them that time to play and engage them with other kids. They learn to compromise and take turns when they play with others.

Lead by example: Babies are genius impersonators. They pick up on everything they see you do. They watch your body language and how you treat others and adapt it. Remember to act in a way that will set an example for your baby.
