Cannes 2024: Payal Kapadia's All We Imagine As Light wins historic Grand Prix

Payal Kapadia's All We Imagine As Light scripted history by winning the Grand Prix at the 77th Cannes Film Festival.

The film bagged the second-most prestigious prize of the festival after the Palme d'Or, at the closing ceremony of the Cannes Film Festival.

All We Imagine as Light is the first Indian film in 30 years and the first ever by an Indian female director to be showcased in the main competition.

Payal attended the event with the cast of the film, Kani Kusruti, Divya Prabha and Chhaya Kadam.

This big win for India was stacked in a line-up of films including new features from  Francis Ford Coppola, Paolo Sorrentino, Paul Schrader, and Yorgos Lanthimos.

The team received an eight-minute standing ovation and positive reviews from international critics after its screening.

All We Imagine As Light is an Indo-French production which follows the life of a nurse Prabha (essayed long-estranged Kani Kusruti) who receives an unexpected gift from her long estranged husband.

This film marks Payal Kapadia's feature film debut. Her previous work, a documentary titled, A Night of Knowing Nothing won her the Golden Eye award at the Cannes Film Festival a few years ago.
