Her family fled from Karachi when she was just 7 years old, during the post-Independence Partition riots. They moved to Sion, Mumbai.
In 1955, Sadhana scored her first little break, as a chorus girl in the song Mud Mud Ke Na Dekh in Raj Kapoor’s film, Shree 420.
She first met RK Nayyar in 1960, on the set of her debut film, Love in Shimla. They married in 1966.
She popularised the Audrey Hepburn-inspired fringe haircut in Bollywood, which came to be known as the 'Sadhana cut’.
She was approached for her first role in ‘Abaana’, India’s first Sindhi film, when she was 15-years-old, after being spotted at a play in Jai Hind College.
Some of Sadhana's most remarkable films include Love in Shimla, Asli-Naqli, Hum Dono, Mera Saaya, Ek Musafir Ek Hasina, Woh Kaun Thi, Mere Mehboob, and Waqt.
In 2014, a 73-year-old Sadhana walked the ramp in the Shaina NC fashion show in a pink saree, alongside Ranbir Kapoor.
