Many people believe that switching telecom providers also implies changing your phone number

This, however, is incorrect. You can retain your phone number while changing your telecom operator by porting it

Here is a quick guide to help you port your mobile number

Send the text PORT followed by the phone number you want to port to 1900. You must send the message from the same phone number as the one you want to port

Then, your current telecom operator will send an 8-digit UPC (Unique Porting Code) to your registered mobile number

The next step is to contact your nearest telecom operator's service operator and submit the 8-digit UPC number and required documents

The new operator will send a request to the prior operator to confirm your history of mobile bill payments. You will be notified of the status of your request within a week

The new operator will give you an SMS with the time and date for the mobile SIM port process after your request has been granted

During the porting process, your mobile phone services will be unavailable for roughly 2 hours

Once you insert the new SIM card, your phone number will be activated with the new network service
