Bread, salt, more: 7 foods astronauts cannot eat in space

Astronauts in space have to undergo rigorous training to alter their diet due to drastic changes in environmental and biological conditions in space.

From bread to sugar, here are some foods that astronauts cannot consume in space.

Salt and sugar

The tiny particles of salt and sugar can float away in space. It can also clog and contaminate air vents, and equipment and even get stuck in astronauts' eyes, mouths, or noses.

Bread, cookies and crackers

Bread, cookies and crackers have a very short shelf life. Their loose crumbs can float in space and get stuck in equipment and devices.

Astronauts cannot consume soda in space as it can lead to carbonation in the digestive system which cannot be released as gas in space due to microgravity.

Ice cream

Ice cream in space can melt faster and damage products. Therefore, it is prohibited to be consumed by astronauts in space.
