Gaganyaan: India's maiden human spaceflight venture

The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) announced that it will commence unmanned flight tests as a first step to its maiden human spaceflight mission Gaganyaan

Here's everything you need to know about the mission

Mission Gaganyaan aims to demonstrate human spaceflight capability by launching a crew of three members to an orbit of 400km for a three day mission and bring them back safely to earth by landing in Indian sea waters

Multiple precursor missions have been planned for the human space flight mission. The missions include Integrated Air Drop Test (IADT), Pad Abort Test (PAT) and Test Vehicle(TV) flights

The crewed mission is planned based on the result of the test vehicle and the precursor missions without crew on board

Owing to human safety, ISRO has been developing various new technologies comprising engineering and human-centric systems

The test vehicle is a single-stage rocket based on liquid propulsion. The Human LVM3 rocket is identified as the launch vehicle for the Gaganyaan mission

The LVM3 rocket consists of the solid, liquid, and cryogenic stages. All the systems are re-configured to meet human rating requirements
