5 guidelines for weight loss recommended by ICMR

The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has unveiled a revised list of 'Dietary Guidelines for Indians', which includes healthy options for weight loss. 

Here are five guidelines recommended by ICMR for weight loss.

Have balanced meals with vegetables

Consume a balanced diet which includes vegetables rich in fibre and nutrients to help curb hunger cravings. 

Eat healthy snacks 

Munch snacks such as nuts, dry fruits, and yoghurt as they are dense in nutrients and help satiate hunger.

Have lean meat

Lean cuts of meat and fish are low in calories and saturated fats, which help promote weight loss.

Cut down on sugary drinks

Reduce your intake of sugary drinks such as soda and fruit juices. Instead, opt for healthier beverages such as herbal tea or unsweetened beverages. 

Check food labels 

ICMR recommends checking food labels for information on calories, saturated fats, added sugar, and sodium to help make healthier food choices which can aid weight loss.
