No food, only water for weight loss? Check out 5 risks of water fasting

Addis Miller from Costa Rica recently went viral for losing weight in 21 days with water fasting. The man shared the video of his body's transformation over 21 days of no food or salts and only water.

While the 21-day water fasting worked wonderfully for Addis Miller, health experts signal potential health risks if done without proper medical supervision.

Here are some risks of water fasting that you must know.

Nutritional deficiency

Avoiding food for a long time can lead to the deficiency of essential nutrients like vitamins, minerals, and electrolytes and can cause weakness, dizziness, and other health issues.

Dehydration risk

Having water alone cannot keep you hydrated. Also, excessive water consumption can lead to electrolyte deficiency, imbalance and dehydration.

Affects metabolism

Fasting for a long time can reduce metabolism, and energy levels and may lead to sudden weight gain after fasting ends.

Those with medical conditions such as diabetes, cardiovascular diseases or eating disorders must avoid water fasting and consult their doctor before choosing any form of weight loss routine.
