The story of world-famous gay penguin couple

The same-sex penguin power couple Sphen and Magic also known as "Sphengic" have inspired millions with their unshakeable bond.

Sphen and Magic, from Sea Life Sydney aquarium have become symbols of love by staying together for six years and even raising two penguins together.

Sphengic are gentoo penguins. Gentoo penguins are a species found in the Antarctic and sub-Antarctic regions.

Sphen and Magic became parents after they were given a “backup” egg to hatch. This egg came from another penguin couple who had laid two eggs but only needed one.

Both penguins stayed together even outside the breeding season, which was unusual for gentoo penguins.

Because of their love story, Sphen and Magic were featured in the Netflix series "Atypical".

Sphen and Magic’s love story inspired a float at Sydney’s famous Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras parade.

Unfortunately, Sphen passed away at the age of 11, leaving Magic alone.

When Sphen died, Magic could not stop himself from mourning his loss.

Sphen died earlier this month due to natural causes, just days before his 12th birthday.

Sphen and Magic’s remarkable bond and unique story touched many hearts around the world.
