5 strange reptiles you didn’t know existed

Discover five unique and fascinating reptiles that are unlike anything you’ve seen before.

The Thorny Dragon: This spiky Australian reptile is covered in sharp, thorn-like scales that help it blend into its desert surroundings and protect it from predators.

The Thorny Dragon collects water by using grooves on its body that direct rainwater straight to its mouth, allowing it to survive in dry conditions.

The Flying Dragon (Draco Lizard): This lizard, native to Southeast Asia, can glide through the air by extending flaps of skin along its ribs, which help it leap from tree to tree.

By using its rib flaps as wings, the Draco Lizard can glide up to 10 metres, avoiding predators or travelling between trees in search of food.

The Mata Mata Turtle: Native to the Amazon, this turtle has a flat, triangular head with flaps of skin that look like dead leaves, helping it blend into the water.

The Horned Lizard: Found in North America, the Horned Lizard has unique horns on its head and can puff up its body to look larger when threatened.

When threatened, the Horned Lizard can shoot a stream of blood from its eyes, scaring off predators.
