Amazing NASA facts about solar system exploration

Explore cool facts about our solar system- from planets and moons to icy edges far away.

It’s called the “solar system” because “solar” means related to the Sun.

Why is it called the solar system?

It’s a cold, wide ring of small icy objects. Pluto is the most famous one found there.

What is the Kuiper Belt?

It’s a bubble made by solar wind from the Sun. Its edge, called the termination shock, is about 100 times farther than Earth.

What is the heliosphere?

Our solar system has hundreds of moons. Some orbit planets, others orbit dwarf planets and asteroids.

Jupiter and Saturn have the most moons.

Mercury and Venus have none, though Venus has a strange object called Zoozve.

Tiny Pluto has five moons.
