Animals that show fascinating mating rituals

Animals around the world have unique and often surprising ways of mating.

The African bullfrog’s mating ritual is very complex.

Young male bullfrogs gather in shallow water pools. Larger males claim the centre of the pool and chase away smaller males.

The feathers of the Argus Pheasant are covered in eye-like spots called 'ocelli,' which he proudly displays to attract females.

Small male Anglerfish attach themselves to the females, not as offspring, but as mates.

Chimpanzee males terrorise females with violence, including biting and hitting, to mate.

Some male ruff birds cross-dress to attract females during mating season.

Animal mating rituals are full of surprises.
