Every pet owner should keep a basic first aid kit at home.

Many items in your home first aid kit can be used for pets too. Ask your vet if your pet needs anything extra.

Keep a copy of your pet’s medical record. Include any medicines your pet takes.

Use a digital thermometer to check your pet’s temperature.

A muzzle can stop bites during emergencies.

Always keep a spare lead, collar, gauze roll, and clean towels in your pet first aid kit.

Use nonstick bandages, clean cloth strips, and self-sticking tape to cover or protect wounds.

Avoid hugging an injured pet, and keep your face away from their mouth.
