Red pandas are not related to giant pandas. They belong to their own animal family called Ailuridae.

A red panda is about the size of a house cat. It has a bear-shaped body, soft red fur, and a long bushy tail.

Red pandas are amazing climbers. They spend most of their time in trees and move with great skill.

In cold weather, red pandas wrap their long tails around themselves to keep warm.

Red pandas mainly eat bamboo. The word “panda” may come from a Nepali word that means “bamboo eater.”

Almost half of all red pandas live in the Eastern Himalayas, in places like Nepal.
