Things you didn’t know about Emperor penguins

Emperor penguins live their whole lives on sea ice.

They need holes in the sea ice to dive in and catch fish, squid, and krill.

Thick and stable ice is needed as a safe place for chicks to grow.

Warming temperatures are shrinking the sea ice that Emperor penguins depend on.

To move across the ice, they slide forward using their wings and feet. It’s called tobogganing.

Penguins may travel up to 160 km between their feeding and breeding grounds.

Hundreds or thousands of penguins gather closely to stay warm in the cold winds.

In the coldest place on Earth, survival depends on teamwork, balance, and the icy world they call home.
