What to do if a snake bites you?

Bitten by a snake? Stay calm and act fast. Here’s what you should do step by step.

According to the World Health Organization, go to a health centre with trained staff and emergency supplies, like antivenom.

Do not cut the wound, suck the bite, or use black stones or herbal medicine.

Move away from the snake. If it’s still attached, use a stick or tool to remove it. Move to safety.

Remove rings, bracelets, or anklets from the area near the bite. Swelling may happen fast.

Many snakebites are not deadly. Keep the body as still as possible.

Use a splint to stop movement. Carry the person with help or a stretcher.

Keep the person on their left side with their mouth down, in case they vomit or can’t breathe.
