World’s most harmless snakes, and where you might see them

Many people think snakes are scary or dangerous. But most of them are harmless and fascinating.

According to National Geographic, nearly 80% of snakes are not venomous. Here are some harmless species that are often misunderstood.

These snakes help control rats in farms, but are still wrongly feared.

Indian Rat Snake

Indian rat snakes are shy and not venomous. But because they look like cobras, people often fear them by mistake.

This large, non-venomous snake is found in India and parts of Southeast Asia.

Indian Rock Python

Indian rock pythons have heavy bodies. They eat birds, rodents, and other small animals in the wild.

This is a medium-sized snake with an olive-brown body covered in black spots.

Checkered Keelback

The Checkered Keelback is a harmless snake found across India. It lives near water, eats frogs and fish, and is sometimes seen near homes.
