Canada’s NDP leader Jagmeet Singh ‘to marry fashion designer’
Jagmeet Singh, who made history this year by becoming the first Sikh elected to lead a national-level Canadian party, may have more to celebrate as it appears the bachelor may be headed for marriage.
Multiple social media posts indicated that the new leader of the New Democratic Party could get hitched to fashion designer Gurkiran Kaur Sidhu, better known as Ginu, according to CBC and Huffington Post Canada.
A Toronto area wedding photographer, Gagandeep Singh posted a photograph on Instagram of the 38-year-old NDP leader and Sidhu, reported to be 27, captioned: “Congrats to the future Prime Minister of Canada @jagmeetsingh & the future First Lady @ginu_sidhu on their Rokha!!”
The rokha is the initial step in the wedding process, and is an occasion for the families and the bride and groom to gather together and agree on the match, prior to a formal engagement.
A video was also posted on Instagram by DJ K Square, which briefly shows Sidhu with Singh, the latter in a bhangra pose.
That was captioned: “We've done house parties before but this one is definitely special. Another Engagement tonight alongside @djssquared@djksquare for @jagmeetsingh and @ginu_sidhu.”
That video was reported to have been shot as a banquet hall in Brampton, the suburb of Toronto where Singh lives.
CBC quoted a spokesperson for the NDP leader as saying the event was a “celebration of families meeting for the first time.”
Sidhu is involved with the fashion firm Jangiiro, which is described on its Tumblr page as “a new age Punjabi clothing line that believes in customising unique garments for each client. inspired by vintage Punjab.”
