Police are responding to reports of a possible shooting at Christopher Columbus High School in Miami; authorities say the school is on precautionary lockdown.

A massive police response is underway at Christopher Columbus High School in Miami-Dade County, Florida amid reports of a shooting and a possible active shooter situation.

Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office has not confirmed if a shooting took place, but said that the school is on a precautionary lockdown. CBS Miami reported that other schools in the area have also been put on a precautionary lockdown. Among them was St. Brendan Elementary, NBC South Florida confirmed.

According to local media reports, the police response was prompted by reports of a potential armed suspect near the school. Multiple police unit arrived as the schools were placed on lockdown as police canvassed the campus.

As of now, there are no confirmations of shooting or a possible armed suspect as police wait to confirm if it was a hoax.

As of now, no injuries have been reported.

Christopher Columbus High School is Located on 87th Avenue in Miami.
