A New Era of Education: Amity Gurugram’s Focus on Cultivating Classroom Leadership
In today’s fast-forwarded education landscape, that’s growing at 2x speed - the role of a teacher has moved far beyond just teaching. It’s about helping students grow, helping them develop smart thinking skills plus curiosity sparking, and most importantly, showing that leadership doesn’t just come from the top, rather it starts right inside the classroom.
Moving forward with this visionary mind, Amity International School located at Gurugram Sector 43, recently hosted an action-oriented webinar on March 30th, 2025 titled as “Cultivating Classroom Leadership” powered by Educart.
Ms Neha Bahuguna, an experienced CBSE resource person and passionate advocate for teacher leadership, led the session for more than 130+ educators from various grades and subjects.
The session primarily focused on practical leadership strategies for teachers to follow in their classrooms instead of broad educational theory, and that’s what made the session unique and stand out.
Redefining Leadership in Everyday Teaching
The main idea was simple: every teacher is a leader, not because of a title or position, but because of the impact they create in their daily interactions with students; which is literally so true!
The session was filled with deep conversations, engaging discussions and real-life classroom examples. Teachers learned more about how leadership can be quiet but powerful enough to change one’s life through daily decisions and classroom culture.
Teachers got to know more about what it truly means to lead from within i.e. by encouraging student voice, promoting shared responsibilities, and following initiatives that they wish to nurture in their students.
Tools That Work in the Real World:
Look, just theory is never enough, obviously. So, the session was totally focused on practical leadership tools. Teachers were introduced to:
- Goal-setting frameworks that encourage student accountability
- Reflective circles to build trust and communication
- Feedbacks that promote a culture of continuous improvement
- Peer mentoring systems for collaborative growth
Rather than adding more work to teachers, these strategies are fitting perfectly into what they already do best, which is connecting with students and creating a positive impact. And this simply resonated with the idea that leadership isn’t about doing more, it’s about doing what matters. So many teachers could relate with it, and that was the win!
As one educator shared, “It was refreshing to see leadership framed as something organic to teaching–not something external to chase, but something to grow within.”
Principal Anshu Arora, who has long championed innovation in teaching, shared her thoughts on the initiative:
“At Amity, we believe that every teacher has the potential to be a leader. This session has not only empowered our teachers with new strategies but has also ignited a shared vision for nurturing leadership in every child we teach.”
Several teachers also expressed interest in forming teacher leadership circles, which could be a great move as it will reflect that it’s just not a one-time workshop but a continuous journey of growth and collaboration.
…Guess the BEST PART?
This initiative was totally aligned with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which highlights teacher agency, autonomy, and leadership as key pillars of quality education. As NEP 2020 rightly states, it not only takes policies but also teachers to bring a lasting change in a positive manner among students and the education system.
In a time when education is being reimagined, sessions like these offer inspiration and direction. And Amity International School is showing how schools can be the starting point for meaningful transformation - one empowered teacher at a time.
