On May 17th, 2025, Army Public School (APS), Shankarvihar, Delhi, took a forward-thinking step towards modernising teaching practices by organising a dynamic workshop on Active Learning for its faculty members. The session was facilitated by Ms. Akanksha Arora, a veteran educator with over 27 years of experience, currently serving as Director, Educator Network at Urban School and Advisor at Ramagya School, Noida.

The theme of the workshop—"Active Learning: From Theory to Classroom Practice"—aligned strongly with the vision of NEP 2020 and NCF 2023, which emphasise student-centric, experiential, and inquiry-based teaching methods over rote learning.

Throughout the two-hour session, Ms. Arora guided teachers through a variety of evidence-backed teaching techniques aimed at boosting student engagement, curiosity, and retention. Drawing from both research and her own classroom experiences, she explained how active learning doesn’t require expensive tools—but a mindset shift in how teachers approach instruction.

Key focus areas included:

  • Experiential learning methods that connect theory with real-world application
  • Collaborative strategies such as peer teaching and group discussions
  • Reflective journaling and exit tickets to gauge student understanding
  • Creating interactive lesson formats where students take ownership of their learning journey

Teachers were encouraged to rethink their lesson delivery, explore interdisciplinary approaches, and design learning experiences that encourage participation and reflection. With relatable examples and interactive discussion formats, Ms. Arora kept the session both informative and deeply practical.

Sponsored by Educart: A Commitment to Teacher Empowerment

The workshop was proudly sponsored by Educart, an organisation deeply invested in supporting teacher training and continuous professional development. Educart representatives were present throughout the event, interacting with faculty and sharing ideas on how competency-based teaching tools and resources can be seamlessly integrated into the existing curriculum.

As a gesture of appreciation, Educart also gifted customised diaries to each teacher, encouraging them to document their reflections and innovations as they experiment with active learning in their own classrooms.

“This session wasn’t just about strategies—it was about rethinking the entire learning experience from the student’s point of view,” said one teacher from the senior wing. “We walked away with ready-to-use ideas and a lot of motivation to make our classes more vibrant and engaging.”

Another participant shared, “What stood out most was how small shifts in questioning, activity design, or feedback can lead to significant changes in how students connect with the subject.”

The school leadership, including the Principal, Academic Coordinators, and senior faculty members, expressed their appreciation for the workshop’s timely relevance and high-quality execution. They reiterated the school’s commitment to equipping teachers with the right tools and training to meet the evolving expectations of 21st-century learners.

With teacher feedback overwhelmingly positive, APS Shankarvihar is now exploring further collaborations with Educart to host more such CPD workshops throughout the academic year, focusing on topics such as differentiated instruction, competency-based assessment, and digital integration in classrooms.

Educart extends heartfelt thanks to Ms. Akanksha Arora for leading such a transformative learning experience, and to the APS faculty for their active participation and enthusiasm. Together, we are taking meaningful steps toward building student-centered, skill-based, and future-ready classrooms across India.
