Educart Hosts Shivani Gupta’s CPD Workshop on Competency-Based Assessments at India International Centre

On 13th July 2025, Educart conducted a high-impact CPD workshop titled “Strengthening Assessments Through Competency-Based Design” at the prestigious India International Centre, Lodhi Gardens, New Delhi. The in-person training brought together 40 teachers from schools across Delhi, all eager to refine their assessment practices in line with the evolving CBSE guidelines.

The session was led by Ms. Shivani Gupta, a certified CBSE Resource Person and experienced teacher trainer, who guided participants through the core principles of competency-based education (CBE) and its practical application in classroom assessments.

From the very beginning, Ms. Gupta established a clear distinction between assessment and evaluation, emphasizing how assessments are meant to drive learning and growth, whereas evaluations are typically used to measure performance. This insight set the tone for a session focused on improving learning outcomes, not just tracking them.

A deep dive into competency-based assessments followed, highlighting the importance of outcome-driven question paper design. Teachers were encouraged to shift their focus from rote content to conceptual understanding and real-world application, laying the groundwork for more meaningful student engagement.

To support this transition, the workshop introduced Bloom’s Taxonomy as a practical framework for crafting questions across various cognitive levels. Participants explored how to design tasks that went beyond recall, encouraging analysis, evaluation, and creativity.

Through hands-on peer activities, teachers got the opportunity to redesign traditional questions into competency-aligned formats. The group work not only solidified theoretical learning but also allowed educators to exchange ideas and gain feedback from peers—fostering a spirit of collaboration and professional growth.

What truly set this session apart was its immediate classroom relevance. From subject-specific examples to step-by-step demonstrations, Ms. Gupta ensured that every teacher left with ready-to-use strategies they could implement in their upcoming assessments.

Educators expressed confidence and renewed purpose by the end of the session, with many acknowledging that the workshop shifted their perspective on assessments—from being a grading tool to becoming a powerful instrument for learning enhancement.
