Educart successfully hosted its latest Continuous Professional Development (CPD) webinar, focusing on “Storytelling as a Pedagogy,” led by noted academician and storyteller Dr. Sonika Chauhan.

The online session, held on June 7, 2025, witnessed active participation from 129 school teachers across the country, aiming to enhance their understanding of storytelling as an effective and meaningful classroom tool.

Dr. Chauhan, known for her work in education and language pedagogy, emphasized that storytelling is much more than just an entertaining activity. “Stories help build emotional connections and offer a powerful way to preserve culture, pass down wisdom, and share beliefs. Every teacher is a storyteller,” she said during the session.

The event, moderated by Mr. Nishant, opened with a look into the history of storytelling, ranging from cave paintings to modern - day digital formats. Drawing on references such as the Bengali folktale collection Thakurmar Jhuli, Dr. Chauhan demonstrated how traditional stories can be integrated into classroom teaching to encourage student engagement and critical thinking.

Key Highlights from the Session:

  • Beyond Entertainment: Teachers explored how storytelling can build empathy, cultural awareness, and stronger classroom connections.
  • Classroom Relevance: The session offered insights into choosing age-appropriate and contextually relevant stories for students.
  • Evolution of Stories: From oral traditions and print to digital formats, participants were encouraged to adapt to evolving mediums.
  • Multiple Perspectives: Educators discussed how allowing students to explore different versions of a story fosters creative thinking.
  • Art Integration: Dr. Chauhan showcased how visual storytelling through drawing or digital media can support inclusive learning.
  • Challenges in Digital Formats: Technical limitations like poor audio/video and low interactivity in online storytelling were discussed.
  • Tools and Techniques: Participants left with practical strategies to weave storytelling into core subjects across grade levels.

This session marked yet another milestone in Educart’s ongoing CPD initiative for empowering school educators. Teachers described the session as insightful, practical, and deeply engaging.

“It was a fresh reminder that we’re not just delivering content - we’re shaping perspectives, one story at a time,” said one participating educator from Delhi.

As educators return to their classrooms, they carry with them not only new strategies but also a deeper belief in the impact of well - told stories making learning memorable, personal, and powerful.
