Empowering Educators: How Holy Public Junior College, in Collaboration with Educart, Is Redefining Assessment Practices for Meaningful Change
In an era where the role of assessments is rapidly evolving from rote testing to reflective learning, this school in Agra is taking meaningful steps to empower its teachers with modern strategies.
On May 3, 2025, Holy Public Junior College hosted an engaging teacher-training session on effective assessment practices — bringing together purpose, pedagogy, and practicality under one roof.
Led by Educart and speaker Mr. Vikram Singh, and conducted under the guidance of Principal Ms. Sonika Chauhan, the session wasn’t just another workshop. It was a conversation — about what truly matters in classrooms, and how teachers can assess not just what students know, but how they think.
At the heart of the session was a question many schools are beginning to ask: “What makes an assessment meaningful?” Mr. Singh explained by drawing attention to the difference between evaluating content recall versus assessing learning outcomes.
He also introduced participants to Bloom’s Taxonomy, a framework that categorizes levels of cognitive learning, from simple recall to analysis and creation. Teachers were encouraged to reimagine their question paper design. The goal? Encourage students to learn more deeply, understanding meanings and real-life examples and not just rattafication processes.
“Not Just Talk” - Real Tools for Real Classrooms
What made this session stand out was its emphasis on practical implementation. Mr. Singh didn’t simply speak about theory, he demonstrated how to design questions that align with learning goals, shared examples of student-centric assessments, and encouraged teachers to reflect on their own classroom practices.
And yes, it wasn’t all whiteboards and PowerPoints. The day began with an ice-breaker activity that broke the formal tone and let the teachers share experiences, smiles, and strategies — making the room feel more like a learning community than a training hall.
It’s no surprise that the response from teachers was so positive. Words like “thought-provoking,” “refreshing,” and “relevant” came up repeatedly in feedback forms. Many attendees expressed a strong desire for more such sessions.
A Step Toward Better Teaching
With this session, Holy Public Junior College, in collaboration with Educart, has taken a confident step in aligning itself with 21st - century teaching goals — “where teachers are not just instructors but facilitators of meaningful learning.” In doing so, the school reminds us that change in education doesn’t always start with new policies. Sometimes, it starts in a classroom, with a teacher who’s willing to ask a better question.
