Hillman Public School, Agra Hosts Educart's In-Depth Workshop on Effective Assessment & Question Paper Design
On April 30th, 2025, Hillman Public School, Agra, in association with Educart, conducted a high-impact professional development workshop focused on "Effective Assessment & Question Paper Design.” The session was led by Mr. Vikram Singh, a seasoned education expert known for guiding teachers across India in adopting NEP 2020-aligned evaluation strategies.
The event brought together 33 dedicated educators from various departments who were eager to refine their assessment practices and design better tools to evaluate student learning. The workshop emphasized the urgent need to shift away from traditional rote-based testing towards competency-based assessments that promote deeper understanding, fairness, and real-world application.
The workshop was designed to equip teachers with practical techniques to build assessments that measure thinking, not memory. Mr. Singh began by highlighting the importance of setting papers that go beyond factual recall, urging educators to balance question difficulty, foster inclusivity, and engage higher-order thinking.
Key topics included:
- How to frame real-life, scenario-based, and application-oriented questions
- Ensuring variety in question formats including MCQs, case studies, assertion-reasoning, and competency-based items
- Strategies to design papers with progressive difficulty levels to accommodate all learners
- Incorporating Bloom's Taxonomy and NCERT learning outcomes into the paper design process
- Using assessment as a learning tool, not just a grading system
To make the training actionable, Mr. Singh walked teachers through actual samples of question papers and engaged them in reviewing and reworking traditional paper formats. Teachers worked in small groups to redesign a section of a paper using the principles discussed.
With the evolving educational landscape guided by NEP 2020 and NCF 2023, teachers are expected to become not just subject experts, but also learning designers. This workshop directly addressed this transition - offering teachers concrete tools to build assessment frameworks that are skill-driven, inclusive, and formative in nature.
"Designing a good paper isn't just about difficulty, it's about relevance and clarity,” said one participating teacher. "This session gave us a toolkit to evaluate better, not just test harder.” Teachers also discussed common challenges they face and received tailored suggestions to overcome them.
The workshop concluded with a strong message: assessment must evolve as teaching evolves. Educators left the session with renewed clarity on their role in shaping how students learn, think, and apply knowledge. The hands-on format made the content accessible and applicable, ensuring teachers could start implementing changes right away in their own classrooms.
