Nandini Das Leads Transformative Workshop on Inclusive Education at Calcutta Public School, Kolkata
Kolkata, September 8, 2025 - Calcutta Public School, Kolkata, in partnership with Educart, hosted a powerful Teachers’ Training Workshop on Inclusive Education. The two-hour free session was conducted by Ms. Nandini Das, a seasoned CBSE Resource Person, and facilitated by Manish. With the participation of 40 educators, the programme marked a significant step towards creating classrooms where every learner feels supported and valued.
The workshop focused on addressing the pressing need for inclusive learning environments in Indian schools, especially in the context of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. Ms. Das began by underlining the importance of viewing classrooms as ecosystems of diversity, where students bring unique strengths, abilities, and challenges. Teachers were encouraged to reflect deeply on how biases, rigid practices, and lack of awareness can create barriers for learners, and how adaptability and empathy can help overcome them.
From Equality to Equity: Redefining Fairness in Classrooms
One of the most impactful parts of the session was the discussion on the difference between equality and equity. While equality focuses on giving every child the same resources, equity is about tailoring support to individual needs. Teachers explored scenarios where rigid uniformity can unintentionally sideline learners, and how a shift towards equity can ensure fair opportunities for growth and participation.
Through interactive examples, Ms. Das highlighted how minor adjustments in teaching style such as differentiated instructions, flexible assessments, and inclusive classroom practices can transform a student’s learning journey.
Adapting Pedagogy for Diverse Learning Needs
The session emphasized the importance of adaptive pedagogy. Teachers discussed ways to recognize and respond to the varied learning styles, abilities, and socio-emotional needs of students. Ms. Das introduced strategies such as:
- Designing lessons that cater to visual, auditory, and kinesthetic learners.
- Building student-centered classrooms where learners are active participants rather than passive recipients.
- Encouraging collaborative tasks that promote peer support and empathy.
Educators were also introduced to practical tools and frameworks for inclusive lesson planning, ensuring that classrooms do not just teach content but also nurture confidence, empathy, and resilience.
Unlike traditional training, the workshop was structured as a dialogue of hearts and minds. Teachers openly shared personal classroom experiences, reflecting on the challenges of inclusivity and brainstorming practical solutions together. This created a collective sense of purpose, with participants reaffirming their role as change-makers in shaping inclusive futures. The discussion also covered the social and emotional dimensions of inclusivity, emphasizing the need to create safe spaces where children feel respected irrespective of their background, abilities, or circumstances. The session encouraged teachers to adopt empathy-driven practices, positioning the classroom as not just a place for academics, but also for personal growth and social harmony.
A Step Towards Inclusive Futures
The workshop concluded with a renewed commitment from educators to integrate inclusive practices into their everyday teaching. Teachers appreciated the clarity and practicality of the insights shared, noting that they left the session not only with ideas but with actionable strategies to implement immediately in their classrooms.
Expressing gratitude, the school leadership acknowledged Educart’s role in initiating meaningful professional development opportunities for teachers. They also lauded Ms. Nandini Das for her dynamic and thought-provoking approach that inspired teachers to see inclusivity not as a challenge but as a transformative opportunity.
By addressing both pedagogical and emotional dimensions of inclusivity, the workshop has set the stage for classrooms that go beyond textbooks - where students of all backgrounds and abilities feel empowered to learn, grow, and thrive.
