New Delhi, August 30, 2025: In a significant step toward fostering inclusive education, Educart organized a CPD Training Webinar on “Gender Sensitivity: Building Respectful and Inclusive Classrooms”. The three-hour session brought together 152 educators from schools across India and was led by Moloy Sanyal, Ex- Director of DoPT (Department of Personnel & Training). The webinar aimed to equip teachers with the tools and understanding needed to create gender-sensitive learning environments that respect diversity and promote equity.

The session began with a clarification of the distinction between sex and gender, highlighting that while sex is biological, gender is a social construct influenced by societal norms. Educators engaged in reflective discussions about how traditional perceptions of gender roles often lead to biases, discrimination, and restricted opportunities for students. Through interactive activities and impactful short films, including Kid’s Understanding of Gender Roles and Tamanna, participants explored the real-world consequences of role perception and gender insensitivity in educational settings.

Key Highlights of the Webinar:

  • Understanding Gender: Teachers learned to differentiate between biological sex and socially constructed gender roles.
  • Challenging Biases: Emphasis on recognizing and addressing gender-based stereotypes in classrooms.
  • Interactive Learning: Short films and exercises highlighted deep-rooted societal challenges and their impact on students.
  • Data-Driven Insights: Discussion on India’s progress toward gender parity, maternal and infant mortality indicators (MMR, IMR, USMR), and the role of reliable data from the Sample Registration System.

  • Practical Implementation: Strategies to identify gender insensitivity and foster equity, respect, and inclusivity in daily teaching practices.

Moloy Sanyal highlighted the importance of proactive interventions in classrooms: “Gender sensitivity is not just a policy goal - it is the foundation for nurturing confident, empowered, and equitable learning environments. Teachers play a pivotal role in breaking stereotypes and ensuring every child has the opportunity to thrive.”

The webinar concluded with practical takeaways, enabling educators to seamlessly integrate gender sensitivity into their lesson plans, classroom discussions, and co-curricular activities. Participants appreciated the actionable strategies and noted that the insights gained would directly influence how they interact with students, design assignments, and evaluate learning outcomes. The session reinforced the idea that creating gender-inclusive classrooms is not a one-time effort but a continuous process that requires awareness, reflection, and deliberate action.

Educators left the webinar with a renewed sense of responsibility to challenge biases, dismantle stereotypes, and build environments where every learner regardless of gender, feels safe, respected, and empowered to reach their full potential. By equipping teachers with the knowledge, practical tools, and confidence to address gender insensitivity, Educart reaffirmed its commitment to fostering inclusive education across India. Initiatives like this ensure that schools not only follow policy guidelines but actively contribute to shaping a generation of students who are empathetic, equitable, and prepared to participate fully in a diverse and progressive society.
